If a cow only gives half a gallon at a time get a new cow! Ours usually gave between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 gallons per day usually milked in the morning. About 15 to 20 minutes is about right. But the number of squirts depends on the cow, whether she is ready to be milked, and perhaps most importantly the milker. Someone who is really skilled can get more milk faster. I never could milk very well so it took me half an hour to get 1 to 1 1/2 gallons. My dad got 2 to 2 1/2 in twenty minutes on the same cow.

Wouldn't it largely depend on the cow? I wouldn't think every cow has the same volume of teat output in a squirt.

aint never counted but the most milk we ever took from the cow at once was about half gallion and that took 20 mins of steady pulling
