I'm from California, so I say "soda" just like everyone else in SoCal.
...But here in Texas, everyone says "Coke", regardless of what kind of soda you're talking about. You'd be surprised how many times I've heard this little exchange:
waitress: Sir, what kind of Coke do you want?
customer: Dr. Pepper.

I always said coke, no whether it was Pepsi or an orange drink. (From the south). Then I married a man from California

Pop. I'm in Pennsylvania, so aside from my friend from Indiana, I don't know anyone that says soda.
