My little girl is 10 months old and has been this far sleeping between baby wieghts. She has been a little slow on developing mobility skills but of late has shown signs of really wanting to move around ( Yah for her ). A couple of time I have put her in her crib without her baby wieghts and has got her legs cought between the bars (ouch)
I have a bumper pad but have heard horror stories of babies smothering themselves in them. Falling asleep with there faces to close and not realizing they are not breathing until it is to late. So my question is , is my baby old enough for bumper pads? and if not does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep my baby safe in her crib? Thank you for any advice....

There are bumper pads for cribs that allow easy breathing...here is a link @ Target where they sell the bumper pads. This is the best solution I think! Good luck!

I have never heard of a baby being too young for bumper pads, but they can get too old. Mine both used bumpers from 6 weeks till about 1 year, once they start standing and walking you need to take the bumpers out so that they can not use them to get out of the crib. Good luck!

What are baby weights?

My nine month old has had a bumper on her crib since day one, no problems. It doesn't prevent her from trying to put her feet through the slats, though (the bumper doesn't go that high)...but hasn't yet gotten stuck. She probably will though. Anyway you can "weave" the bumper through the slats if you're that concerned. And make sure it's tied good and tight. Try to relax a little; at her age, she is not so much at risk anymore for smothering.

my son has had a bumper on his crib since the day he was born (now 5 months) (as well as my 12 and 11 yr old) he has done fine with it! since they are able to move a littl emore at this age, when ever they have something covering thier face, they usually either take it off or cry out of frustration. I think you'll be fine. If your not ok with it, always trust your gut, put the baby to sleep in a well padded playpen where there are no bars. this way baby sleeps good and you have peace of mind

The padding is safe to use. Just make sure that it is tied tightly to the crib. Usually babies at that age have no danger of smothering themselves. However if you truly are fearful about it there are devices that you can buy to put in the baby's crib and an alarm will sound if the baby stops breathing.

her mobility is behind because you are tying her down so to speak at this age she wont suffocate under the bumpers. i used bumper pads on my crib with my son at birth and never had a problem until he started standing up in the crib around 11 months at this age i would remove them once she starts standing she will use them to try to get out

If she is moving around being able to move head from side to side and roll, I would not worry, my son is 8 months and I put him in it. Yeah baby's can suffocate, I have heard that to, and I use to sleep with him because I was afraid of SIDS. My son now moves ALL over the crib and I am so used to waking him up from when he woke up to eat that I still wake up, I just check him. My son always has his head leaned against the padding, but in order to suffocate baby would have to be completely face covered pushed against it. 10 months I think your baby would be fine and if the padding has designs she would like it also it will prevent her from bumping her head on the crib. I wouldn't worry

All 4 of my kids (from birth) used the pads. However to answer your question...if your daughter is old/strong enough to roll over, and lift/move her head, she should be fine. She should be old enough to realize when her face is covered and move it off of her, or move her heard. They also make monitors that let you know when she stops breathing or moving around. I think they are placed under her sheet. Ultimately it has to be your call. If you aren't going to able to sleep at night b/c you are worrying if she's breathing or not then don't do it. you may also thing about investing in a camera with monitor in her room. We bought like a little security camera with sound for our kids rooms. You can get them starting at about $45.00. Good Luck!!

I have a breathable 'bumper' on my daughter's crib. Basically it's a mesh material that is taut all the way around her crib. If she gets too close, she can still breathe through the material, but she can't get her legs or arms through the crib.

I never used any of that and had 4 kids, modern cribs are made so heads cannot get stuck in them anymore. She should be seen by a specialist at 10 mos. She should be moving around alot, crawling, standing, some even at walk then. If her leg gets stuck let her cry until she moves it out herself, sounds like you've been too 'helpful.'
