Most of that will depend alot on what size tank you have. If this male Betta is the only fish there, I don't see this being a problem. The general aggressiveness of a male Betta is towards another male Betta. I am sure it's not limited to just that, but they will fight to the death with another male. In the local pet stores I've seen them introduce male Betta's with other community fish with no problems at all, so I'd think a bottom feeder would be just fine. Cory's are fairly small and active, colorful in some varieties. Loaches aren't bad but they will get bigger over time, so tank size comes to mind. Pleco's will grow to enormous sizes down the road so you probably will not want to go with that unless you have long range plans for a much bigger tank. Verifying also about the asian algea eaters, is true, they have a tendancy to be agressive in regards to attaching to other fish and many times it ends up in death. Many breeds of catfish grow to be big, but are colorful, so check out thier long term potential before buying.

Betta, typically stay near the top of the water, but swim around some. Most of the bottom feeders I've delt with have been various cat fish. I like the pecos cat, it isn't really colorful but has a cool spotted pattern.

specific you may, yet no longer in that tank. rather a million.5 gallons is purely too small for the betta itself. it won't be able to be heated wisely and it may no longer carry the nitrogen cycle even if in case you have a clear out. 5 gallon is recommeneded for a single betta (then you definately could desire to maintain snails and doubtless some shrimp as "backside feeders"). in case you like fishy tankmates, a bigger tank is mandatory. In 10 gallons you will be able to desire to maintain a college of pygmy cories including your Betta, in 20 gallons a college or bigger cories or kuhli loaches and a college of non violent education fish which incorporate black neons or cherry barbs. (Cories, loaches, tetras, barbs are education fish, they could desire to be stored in communities of 6+/species, tank length relies upon on the speices.)

A khuli loach is colorful & can hide under a rock or something in the tank if the betta is particularly aggressive. Usually bettas only fight with other bettas, but not always.

I was always told not to put any fish bottom feeder or not, with a betta. I even tried the frog in the tank and it (the betta) eventually killed the frog.

You can put cory catfish in with a betta and you should be fine. Do not put chinese alge eaters or plecos in the tank because they have a tendence to attach themselves to the fish thus causing death.

cats are probably going to be the most colorful but i think bottom feeders tend to be kinda blank as kinda a defense. i personally have a Chinese alge eater but thats in a tank with guppies and a black neon tetra... i dont know about putting it with a beta ive always been told like the lad above never to put anything with a beta because of their very aggressive behavior. unless of course you are fighting them... :P
