I usually start my birth control the Sunday after my period. If I start it the day I start my period, will my bleeding be shorter?

Yes, it will be shorter and possibly a little lighter. However, if you're going to start moving your pill cycle around (which is just fine), then you might want to wait 3 weeks or a month before having unprotected sex, to make sure your body is protected on the new cycle.

You can also skip your period by taking your pill packs back to back (no sugar pills week). It's called continuous birth control and is recommended for women with intensely painful/heavy/long periods, people going on vacation, etc. Offically, Seasonale is the only pill that is packaged to be taken in such a way (4 periods a year), but most OB-GYNs will tell you it is completely safe to do with pills or the ring on your own.

There are pills where you can skip your period all together now. Ask your Dr for those next time you go. There are many women out there that skip the placebo pills and skip their period. It doesn't hurt to do it occasionally but you should speak with your Dr just to be safe.

No, this will also make the pill less effective and mess up your cycle completely. Taking the pill as instructed and on time each day is the only way to shorten the length of your cycle.

You should take them as directed and not wait until the day you start your period to take the next pack. It will screw up your cycle (I did this once and it took months to get back to normal).
