I use All Free and Clear detergent and Downy fabric softener most of the time. All and Gain also make nice smelling fabric softener. On the rare occasions that I buy a scented detergent, I make sure to buy the same scent of fabric softener so I'm not mixing fragrances. I also try to change fragrances once in a while because it seems like I get used to one and can't really smell it after a while.

Sounds like she is keeping something from you! lol!
I feel the same way you do. I LOVE for my laundry to smell the best. I found these things in my search for great smelling laundry...

* If you like the smell of cedar, use Gain detergent. It smells like my grandma's cedar chest and smells great on a guy!
* Tide is by far my fave! BUT, I can't always afford it. I also really like Cheer, All, and Wisk.
* But MOST important to MY laundry are... BOUNCE DRYER SHEETS! I don't have time or patience to run up and down the stairs to get in fabric softener, and I have tried EVERY dryer sheet known to man, but my all time favorite that works well with EVERY laundry soap is Bounce, and I love the orcard scent, but they are all pretty darn fantastic!
* And always use bleach with all the above for whites. Doesn't matter what kind, it gets everything just that much more fresh smelling!!! :)

When my laundry cycle hits the rinse and once the tub is full of water and I have added the softener I let it soak for about 15 minutes before the rinse cycle spin. It leaves a longer lasting softness and sweet smell. I then either line dry or tumble depending on the load. Good luck

Find out how much of each product she uses, and how large her laundry loads are. If you're putting too many clothes in a load, they won't get clean enough, and will take forever to dry.

The best smelling clothes are partly tumbled dry for softness, then hung outside on the line to dry in the breeze. A tip I learned from my mother in law is to pre-hang shirts on hangers and clip the hangers to the laundry line... saves one step when they're dry 'cause then you just put them in the closet.

I use Tide liquid laundry detergent & Downy April Fresh liquid softener. My wash always smells so good.

the laundry smells better because your m/inlaws washing machine is not rinsing as thouroughly as yours and leaving traces of detergent and softener in the fabric if your clothes are coming clean in the wash i'd be glad all that residue wasn't left in my clothes.

You might want to ask her what she is doing. Maybe she lets the load sit for a little while longer on the rinse cycle. I like using the orange bottle of downey.

It could be the water you use. If you are on different water systems you may need a water softener.

It has to do with the different body odours etc,
Maybe try rinsing the wash twice..
good luck
