I ended up hitting the front side of my car against the sidewalk today, and right after this happened, my car started acting funny.

It wasn't a huge collision and my car is new, but the steering wheel is not aligned straight anymore...
It is always straight when the car goes straight, obviously...but now it slightly tilts to the right when the car goes straight. If I try to straighten the wheel by turning it to the left a little, the car goes to the left.
This is difficult to explain, but if you have questions please ask.

I am going to take my car to a mechanic later today but until then I just want to know if there is any way to tell what is wrong with it, if it could be major damage, ect... or any comments/advice/suggestions/ideas.

I'm thinking that the alignment is screwed up, but I know little about cars.

THANK YOU so much if you have read this and have any advice/comments/whatever. I'd reallyyyy appreciate it.

Depending on how hard you hit the sidewalk and what kind of car you have, I would say you possibly bent a tie-rod. The repair shouldn't run you too much, a tie-rod for a non-rack and pinion steering gear is pretty cheap. If it is a front wheel drive car then you might have to replace the entire rack and pinion. You may also have just knocked the control arm out of alignment, but this is unlikely if the car is going straight but the steering wheel is crooked.

It could be the alignment, but you also might have bent some parts in the front end that keep your wheels straight. My daughter did the same thing as you--it cost her about $500 to get it fixed.

The alignment is definitely messed up, but it's probably due to suspension damage from hitting the sidewalk

yes, u should have the alignment checked otherwise, it will make ur tires wear uneven and faster. it doesnt cost a real lot to have ur tires checked
also check the tire pressure on a regular basis
