(1/2 m^3 z^4)^2

Let's rewrite the expression, taking out some of the exponents.

(1/2 mmm zzzz )^2

If you square something, that's multiplying it by itself. Like so:

(1/2 mmm zzzz )(1/2 mmm zzzz )

You can put these together like this:

1/4 mmmmmm zzzzzzzz

Count up the m's and z's.

1/4 m^6 z^8

In this case, the simplification comes from working through the exponent.

When you have something with an exponent raised to another exponent, the exponents multiply together to get the final number. This is because taking an expression to a power is like multiplying it together the number of times in the exponent. Because when expressions with the same base are mutiplied, the exponents get added together, when you take the same expression to a power, the exponents multiply.

So, for example (x^2)^3 = x^2*x^2*x^2 = x^(2+2+2) = x^6
However, you could have just multiplied the exponents together: x^(3*2) = x^6 --- It's the same thing.

Additionally, any constant not already raised to an exponent is simply taken to the exponent. So, in this case, you get:

(1/2)^2*m^(3*2)z^(4*2) = 1/4m^6z^8

(1/2m^3 z^4)^2
we are going to distribute the exponent 2 to each term in the parenthesis

1/2^2 = 1/4
(m^3)^2 = m^6
(z^4)^2 = z^8

combine the terms

1/4m^6z^8 is the simplified form.

Here's a way of looking at it:

it's really (1/2 m^3 z^4) times itself, cuz it's squared.

And you can write it out like this:

(1/2 m*m*m *z*z*z*z) (1/2 m*m*m *z*z*z*z)

which is 1/4 m^6 z^8

(1/2m^3*z^4)^2
={(1/2)^2 }{(m^3)^2 }{(z^4)^2}
According to the rules of indices
=1/4*m^(3*2)*z^(4*2)
=1/4m^6z^8
Hence,simplified equation=(1/4m^6z^8)
