Not necessarily. Oil is a NON-RENEWABLE source of energy. The higher the cost of gasoline the greater the incentive to find alternative fuels.

I fail to see who the record gets pinned to.
Everything has gone up. Milk, eggs, bread, candy bars...
Are we dumb enough to think that this is not also true with fuel. You raise minimum wage and now consumers have more money to purchase with thus retailers charge more. We are supplying gas to at least 12 million more people than we should, also raising the price.
