Take it to the dry cleaners for their opinion.

It really depends on the fabric it is made with.

I have a 44 year old BIG (6'x 8')Mexican serape. The cleaners would not touch it because of age. I have machine washed it. But it did some slight damage to it. Now I just run it through the dryer with softener sheets on delicate.

Since I refuse to take anything to overpriced dry cleaners, I would fill my tub with cold water, use Woolite for delicate items and then, if the water appears to be dirty, use a small (clean) plunger to agitate the throw. Otherwise, just swish it around to clean it. To rinse, just squeeze the throw as much as possible but DO NOT WRING. Fill the tub with cold water and rinse. I would do this twice, using a liquid fabric soften in the final rinse water. Again, squeeze out excess water. place it in a rubber maid tub (to eliminate a mess on the floor) and take it outside to dry on a rack or over a clean picnic table so the throw doesn't stretch. outside.

Read the label. You may have to hand wash. My washer has a hand wash cycle that works great. I would not put in dryer unless you have an air dry cycle which is cold and it does take a long time to dry.

I use my machine for everything! If you keep it on cold water and use the gentle cycle, it;s gonna be fine! Just don't dry it! Hang dry!
