Bush and cronies took all post-9/11 international solidarity and completely crushed it with the Iraq war.
Imagine, in a few years going from well-respected to hated.

He actually stood up to the DPRK, instead of giving in like every other president before him. It would have been easy just to do the popular thing and appease in order to buy a few more years of 'nice' relations with them.
Doing the right thing isn't always popular, well it's probably never popular.
