Either look at your motherboard manual (if you have one) or open the case and look at what is unused in your computer. Wreless cards are still nearly all PCI, but you should still check to see if your computer has a free slot.

Turn off, unplug (VERY important) and open the side of your case. The expansion slots will be at the back of your case and line up with the removable slot covers on the back.

PCI slots are all the same size and most computers will have at least 3. They are taller than a PCI-Express slot.

PCI-Express slots are low compared to PCI and come in different speeds:1x is a very short slot for expansion cards (like you are getting) - maybe only 1.5 inches long. 4x slots are fairly rare and I've never seen a card that uses them. 16x slots are very long and are generally used for video cards.

I would just check to see if you have a PCI slot free and get one of those. I have also used USB external wireless adapters and they work well also.

Good Luck.

usual 32-bit PCI slots are what you will locate in maximum computers geared up in the final 10 years. although PCI is slowly being replaced with PCI convey. New motherboards deliver with the two PCI and PCIe, yet i would not be suprised to make certain PCI thoroughly replaced over right here few years. PCI convey isn't in uncomplicated terms for video enjoying cards, the video card distributors have been purely the 1st to undertake it. you may get PCIe raid enjoying cards, community enjoying cards, video enjoying cards etc. the accepted distinction between PCI and PCIe is the top bandwidth PCI = 133 MB/s (32-bit 33mhz) PCIe x1 = .5 GB/s PCIe x4 = 2 GB/s PCIe x8 = 4 GB/s PCI e x16 = 8 GB/s

Wireless Networking cards are made for PCI bus slots and PCI express slots are made for graphics cards. You most likely have a PCI slot on your computer and the instructions that come with your Net card will tell you where to put it.

Your computer may have also have a PCI express slot, but you should read the instructions for installing the card so you put it in the right place.

If your computer is new you have a PCI express, PCI is now considered old, AGP is better than PCI and worse the PCI express.

If you have USB, best option is probably a USB Wireless Adapter and you don’t have to open the PC case.
