I don't know what exist in this universe, I'm just a speck here on this earth, but I don't think I'm afraid Demons,I don't know If they even exist, I like to think that God exist, but I don't really know?!
I just aknowledge him, even when I'm not sure. One thing I don't really absorb myself into is the Bible, I think somethings in it are true, but who knows how much stuff is re-written?!
It's just what people are taught, is what they believe, I guess?

I don't think that they're afraid of the name itself. They're afraid because of evrything that has been written about demons, since the dawn of the printed word. Demons do exist, as do other creatures of the night. There's a variety of demons around. Both good demons and bad ones. You shouldn't be afraid of the good ones. Only the bad ones.

Because unlike ghosts alone, and almost any other supernatural thing, demons have all of these powers, and they are almost impossible to stop, unless an exorcism takes place, most of the time, no one knows that a person is being possesed after a long time, and sometimes, they proably will never notice.
In simpler terms: They are liittle devils, powerful, and almost unstoppable

They are afraid they will be possessed. Demons are Satan's minion. They were cast out of heaven with Lucifer, now called Satan or the Serpent or the Devil. One third of the angels in heaven were cast out with Satan. People saw the movie about Emily Rose and realized, hey this is a true story. Documented and recognized.

Most of the fears are taught in childhood and for many fears there are no basis . We are perplexed as every one talks about it but none has seen .
If any one can find out the reason for fearing demon,an easy solution is also possible to erase such a fear.
And there are so many fears inside the human mind which make each one to behave differently from others and cause conflicts and war.

Their supposed relation to evil taught throughout history and within many organised religions, perhaps?
It's said that demons were originally angels that fell from the top. In other words, their actions were not seen as pure by God - in which they were cast down.

There are no demons just people too scared or unwilling to face their dark side and every one has one from the nicest child to the sweetest old lady although mostly subconciously.

My husband very much believed that he saw both demons and angels just before he died, but he told me that when I was there the demons stayed away. I guess I'm not scared of them.

There usuraly portrayed as evil or just plain scary. That could be a reason. I don't believe in demons or any of those things but I have been involved in the religion that states they are evil/scary.

Demons are SCARY.
Just watch Dogma. Anything that can control a group of malevolent teenage hockey players is utterly terrifying.
