Mandriva has always been a favorite of mine, I don't particularly like the visual aspects of Windows but this one is close to it as you will get without having to change any of the Desktop settings.

Having read some reviews on the latest release by Mandriva it is suggested you use the Spring ONE edition and not the Discovery/Powerpack versions. I've tried both and prefer ONE also. ONE is a liveCD so you can play with it before installing.

geeksgalore: You should not judge someone's intelligence based on what find aesthetically appealing. Someone who is using Linux may prefer it to look like a Window's system to make it easier for others using the PC who are not familiar with the format of a Linux desktop. Or even for themselves, who knows, but who cares, it is not your PC, let them customize it how they wish.

There are really only two different desktops for Linux distros. One is KDE the other is GNOME both are good either one can be used with ANY linux distro. Both can be configured to appear anyway you want them too.

The fact you want to use an XP type window means you should probably stick to XP.

Why would Linux want to look like windows, if you want windows run windows, lwave Linux to the hard core computer people. Ubuntu is an awesome choice for desktop KDE, to shun it shows your ignorance.

There are 2 that i like: Debian and Kubuntu. Debian has thousands of help courses (purposes and utilities). Kubuntu is an off-shoot of Debian and has grow to be conventional because of the fact it extremely is a "plug and play" replace for living house windows. It purely works devoid of any flaws.
