I have the same problem right now except i have a leak :( lol. You dont need to change it., Just add some. Check the dip stick to see where it is at and then just add some too. Should fix that sound :)
when its low on power steering it usually has a whining sound almost.

This is far less likely than the other answers but still applies:
If it only happens when you turn the wheels ALL the way left or right, the tires could be too big. My truck did this and I couldn't figure out why. It turned out that the retard I bought the truck from put tires that are too big on it and they were rubbing on the frame.

I would check the C V joints, It sounds like you are describing the grinding sound of the joint grinding when you turn. If it were your power steering unit (fluid low, bad pump) it would squeal not grind!!!

That would be a quick and affordable trouble shoot to start with. Deeper than that you need to check lugnuts, wheel bearings then steering linkage followed by the front brake system.
