so rude and senile when you are nothing but nice to them?

I am not being mean with this question. I am just curious. I work in customer service and am ALWAYS nice to my customers and ALWAYS smile and greet them. It's just an observation.

Senile they can't help, rude they could. As many people get older, they realize that certain of their abilities diminish or go away entirely. They forget things more easily, their eyesight worsens, it becomes harder to walk, etc. I think some are a little rude because they don't like being reminded that they can't do things as easily as they once could. For example, one may not want help crossing the street because it's a reminder that is has become more difficult for them to walk. Also, I think many feel that they've earned the right to be rude since they're an elder and they're to be respected.

Why should it be important that people should be nice to you ? If they are not nice, then ignore them, or have nothing to do with them. If they are senile, they can't help it. Dementia is a rough thing.

Oh you're telling Me?!! I used to take the bus to Atlantic City and there was nothing but Seniors on the bus , and I'll tell you those are the "Meanest People "!!! but then I started to walk in their ortopedic shoes, I would be mad too if the only thing that moved fast on my body was my mouth!! I would use it my full advantage , You know the saying " use it or lose it"!!!

1. Because they're old and miserable and think just because they've been on this earth a long a** time they have the right to talk to you any way they feel like.
2. Jealous because you're young and they're not.

From my years of dealing with people of all ages , I found it's not just the old people , it's people of all ages that are rude.
I think they are just looking for someone to take their anger out on. They must not be married.

Maybe they're just bitter that their time has gone by and it's too late for their bodies to handle doing 'young' activities anymore. I wouldn't like being there either, and I DON'T look forward to it! ENJOY BEING YOUNG!!!

yeah some (not all) of the elderly are like that. some of them have very very big egos and some just do that because they are grumpy, which means they take their grumpiness out on other people.
not all of them do that but some do.
