I was wondering if a rash suit would keep a child warm in cool (not cold) water as opposed to buying a wet-suit?

Rashguards are designed to prevent friction an contact between skin and sand or shells or board, not for warmth. If your child will be playing in cooler water you would def want to go with a wetsuit. A rashguard may even make your child colder because it is wet fabric against the skin. Think of wearing a wet tee shirt on a chilly day - brrrr! Wetsuit neoprene is deisigned to absorb bodyheat and maintan body temperature.

It would depend on the water temperature if a wetsuit is necessary at all.

Good luck!!!

NO! They merely protect against sunburn, and the obvious chafing from a heavy duty surfing/scuba type suit.

And they can actually make children more chilled than they would be without. The air keeps the wet fabirc chilled on the skin. Use a neoprene suit or nothing.
A shortie-type wet suit helps younger, slender children enjoy the water more and for longer periods of time.

I think they will help but thats really not what they are for. they will keep the kid a little warmer than a shirt.
