He attacked with his forces during the winter of 1237-1238, and some sources say this was in January, while others suggest February. First to be attacked was Ryazan, and then Moscow. Any definite dates?

Unfortunately, there are no real definite dates on the invasion for several reasons, one being that the historical records of the time are notoriously vague, two, Moscow was not as important in Kievan Rus as certain other cities (such as, of course, Kiev, and Vladimir) and three, Mongol attacks on cities were known to take weeks or months - even years - in order to maximize the psychological tactics the Mongols were known for using and to throw the enemy into confusion as to who would be attacked next.

Your best bet is to either look through the Novograd Chronicles, or simply say "the winter of 1237-1238" since that's as close as the common record will probably ever be; to be more specific would actually make it more inaccurate, barring the unlikely scenario of more records appearing to give specific dates.

In November 1237 Batu Khan sent his envoys to the court of Yuri II of Vladimir and demanded his allegiance. A month later, the hordes besieged Ryazan. After six days of the bloody battle, the city was totally annihilated, and never restored its former glory. Alarmed by the news, Yuri II sent his sons to detain the horde, but these were soundly defeated. Having burnt Kolomna and Moscow, the horde laid siege to Vladimir on February 4, 1238. Three days later the capital of Vladimir-Suzdal was taken and burnt to the ground. The royal family perished in the fire, while the grand prince hastily retreated northward. Crossing the Volga, he mustered a new army, which was totally exterminated by the Mongols on the Sit' River on March 4.
