When originally leased to be 1 person upstairs, 2 of us dwnstairs ( all females in bldg. Now upstairs has 5 ( 15 mo,11 yrs & 3 adults). There is only 1 front entrance to bldg & neighbors leave door unlocked, if We lock door must ans to let people in. Neighbors have no routine to so not possible to adjust to noises. Baby runs all day & night, kid bounces basketball
and runs up & dwn stairs. Adults, yell, argue,
,slam throw things, etc.
We have been tenants for 3 mos, upstairs 2 mos.
Can't afford to move, but would like some peace and not have constant headache from noise overhead.
To move will require breaking lease & very expensive. Rent $1200 per mo + utilities.
Landlord no assist, had a hard time leasing bldg ( vacant since 9/06.
Not going to do anything as long as he gets Rent. Bldg has issues, renovated but: wiring bad, plumbing upstairs stops up,no insulation between hardwood floors to buffer any noise, door bells not working, grounding wires cut, Any suggestions?

Why on earth did you sign a lease for this place ? As is the case with any lease, you must check your lease for terms and conditions of rental. As long as your landlord fulfills his terms of the lease contract, you are required to fulfill yours as well.

I'd expect that none of the issues you cite are covered in the lease. Be more careful next time when you sign a lease.

go buy a book called Tenants Rights, for your state. it expains in normal language the rights and responsibilties for both parties. theres also a section on breaking leases, and this will tell you how to do it legally.......some librarays have them too. check to see how current, though.
