There will be a mass suicide if people have to continue hearing, seeing or reading about Britney Spears for much longer.

Personally I think that some sort of plague will wipe us out. In the past decade we have seen and increase in diseases that have threatened us. SARS was a biggy, fortunately we managed to control it. What will happen when another air born virus comes about that we can not control.

If this doesn't get us then some sort of STD will. AIDS is on the increase, I am not sure of exact figures but in Africa it has become an epidemic.

On the brighter site, it will not be either because with todays exciting world of nukes we are more than likely to blow the living sh*t out of each other. YEAH

p.s. I'm not always so pessimistic

Do you mean world shattering or humanity becoming extinct?

IF the former case..then its most likely cause would be a strike from a comet...an asteroid might kill of all surface life but a comet moves faster , hits harder and tends to mass more then asteroids. as for time scale...? .... they are like buses, never run to exact timetables then three at once.. it will be most likely one we don't know about that comes into a collision course due to Stella phenomena (a nova blowing it of track etc etc).

The other planet shatterer would be a supernova of huge propotions... our suns ought to have a good million years left of burn time so no worries in the short term.

OK, man kind killers:

1. the super volcano under Yellowstone will blow in the next 250,000 years and cause a nuclear winter that will cause temps to drop 10 degrees globally and cause an ice age... all bugs will die so no pollination so no plants ... the rainforest's and all vegetation susceptible to climate change will die anyway... bang go's half of the worlds oxygen..and the plankton are going to suffer as well so that kills of most of the other half. as ice ages can last..well an age as it happens! the chances of a viable population surviving in bunkers long enough...slim.

2. An asteroid.... mathimatical certainty but no clear dates to give you.

3. global warming... a laughably small chance of killing us off as its such a slow process we can easily keep enough population alive to keep going (Note: it will be apocolyptic in the poorer nations and its comming soon.. but its not aan extintion level event!)

4.nuclear war ...doubtful, but possible if we fire alll the nukes on earth then we will have to wait a while before its safe to come out. But then again the japs rebuilt herosima and nagasaki in only a couple of years despite radiation ! its not a global killer unless we fire all of em to equal the super volcano fall out effect.

my fave bet is on:

The Angel opened the last seal and a voice was heard in the wilderness saying "it is done"....next tuesday about an hour after tea time, say about 5.45pm GMT..... smoke em if you've got em ;)

The world will end on July 21st 271248, Sol our sun will expand and become a red giant. taking Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Jupiter and Saturn will most likely ignite creating two smaller stars. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will start to warm and life might start again. But don't morn for humanity, we would have taken to the stars long before that.

With an ice age. Humans have emerged with their civilizations, technologies and their histories thanks to a 7,000 year old summer. While nature, itself, has been previously the cause of ice ages, we humans are about to earn the doubtful honour of creating the next one.

I put it conservatively around 2125-2150. Even the experts haven't got a clue so I can't be slated too much. If you and I are not around at this point, there is a very good chance that our children will be. For these reasons we need to develop a sense of responsibility for all things outside our own narrow life concerns.

Nobody knows when the world will end. What security in life is that? If people did know they would be running around trying to get everything out of life they could and a lot of people would get hurt in the long run.
Jesus said nobody knows, not even the Angels, only the Father. That is pretty direct and its for good reason.

Supervolcanic eruption, huge eruption, pyroclastic flows, tons of ash in the atmosphere, shorts out the machinery, chokes people on the ash and could start a new ice age. The human race'd be devastated if one was ever to happen.

"...not with a bang but with a whimper."
Honestly, I don't think it will be nuclear war. I lived through the cold war years when everyone thought the Russians wanted to nuke us. Turned out they didn't want to be annihilated any more than we did. The threat of mutual total destruction tends to keep nuclear war at bay. Probably one day there will be an ecological disaster, or eventually the sun will just burn out.

by end i presume you mean the human race? if not the world will end either when an asteroid blows us to smithereens or when the sun finnally burns out which is in a good few million years.

Besides those two events I cant see anything that will kill the human race off were like cockroaches, remarkably resilliant.

i think, no, i know dinosaurs are going to re-evolve just like godzilla did with 100's of eggs, then they will run out food because man is destroying everything, and they turn on man ,wipe us out and live happily for another 10million years .
exactly when this is going to happen im only 90% sure so id rather not give a date .
