To convert feet to inches, you multiply by 12, since there are 12 inches in each foot. So

f(x) = 12x

To convert yards to feet, you multiply by 3, since there are 3 feet in each yard. So

g(x) = 3x

Then the composite function "plugs" g(x) into f(x):

f(g(x)) = 12g(x) = 12(3x) = 36x

This function first converts yards into feet and then feet into inches...so altogether, f(g(x)) converts yards into inches (which makes sense, because there are 36 inches in a yard).

f(g(3)) = 12(3(3)) = 36(3) = 108 inches in 3 yards
f(g(6)) = 12(3(6)) = 36(6) = 216 inches in 6 yards
f(g(9)) = 12(3(9)) = 36(9) = 324 inches in 9 yards

f(x) = 12x
g(x) = 3x
f(g(x)) = 36x, and it converts yards to inches (yards to feet, feet to inches).

f(g(3)) = 36*3 = 108

You can evaluate the remaining values yourself. It's just 36x.

f(x) = 12x
g(x) = 3x

f(g(x)) = 36x - it converts yards to inches

f(g(3)) = 108
f(g(6)) = 216
f(g(9)) = 324

#define FEET_MAX INT_MAX / 12 int feetToInches(int ft){ // you may no longer stuff greater in an int than it may carry. // make certain you have sufficient for ft * 12 // or there will be an overflow exception. // FYI - Your instructor would recognize you cheated in case you // turn in something previous your means. if(FEET_MAX >= ft) return (ft * 12); else return (-a million); }
