I'm concerned that a friend of mine might be anorexic. I've never seen her eat, and she's getting thinner and thinner and there's bags under her eyes. I've heard those are the symptoms and don't know what to say to her. We're not "best" friends, and I think it might be a little awkward to talk to her.
What do I say?

Yes talk to her. Mention that while it's good that she's really trim and such - that she may have more than reached her weight loss goal.

She will deny it. But at least you will have spoken to her about it.

Then alert your school counselor how concerned you about "Jill" and her weight loss.

Then speak with Jill's parents - privately of course - about how concerned you are about Jill and her weight loss.

After that - let the chips fall where they may. Jill will be furious with you for "meddling" but anorexia is not a laughing matter. Just understand that Jill will really be upset with you.

About all you can do is to hang in there, make no judgments about her and be there when she finally crashes.

You're a good friend.

okay true enough you two are not best friends yet..but wanting to become a best friend starts with asking and helping.

there are ways to ask her without offending her..tell here this.

I know we aren't best friends but, i feel friends should be able to help one another i have a concern and I'm just curious to know..if you don't want to tell me i respect that..but, on the other hand i care about you....is there anything bothering you?

she'll probably say no or she might say yes who knows

if she ask why..just say..well i have noticed you don't eat a lot is it because you have a fast metabolism?

she'll probably say yes or no..then just say well i had a friend..(even if it isn't true)..who didn't eat a lot come to find out she had anorexia..(then watch her face expression or her body movements) if she tenses up or puts her head down..you'll then know..

then say surprisingly..is there something wrong?

from there hopefully she will tell you..just try it..
