your mother could be hurting from someone's harsh words, or could be hurting from having smacked her finger with a hammer, or because she's had a long and hard day, or could have suffered an injury or illness, etc.

I would just hug her and tell her how wonderful of a person she is. I would tell her how glad I am to be her daughter, and how much joy she has brought to so many people's lives. Then I'd make her a cup of tea and sit with her and listen. That's only what I would want someone to do for me in a similar situatuin.

I know that my mom is fine when she acts like all of the above but when she starts to cry thats when pain hits everywhere. Not only does it pain her but it pains you and the rest of the family I know that every twice or 3 times a week my father would beat my mom and LORD she would hurt and cry as tears of pain would stream down her face and at nite I would lay in bed hoping and wishing that she would be ok. Well she survived all the beatings and the rest of the things my dad would tell her and do to her she is so strong she is one of the most dedicated heros I know and I love my momma, and I know that nobody should cry but especially your momma

I would try anything to alleviate her pain. I can't stand to see her in pain or sad. Even though she is a very strong woman and I know she can take care of herself, I can't watch her cry without doing anything. here is an example: Once when I was a kid, a policeman stopped her for speeding. I got pissed off at him and told him to leave her alone. She wasn't too happy about that. He didn't like it either.

I was w/ my mom when she got hit by a car in a mall parking lot. I could have killed the driver w/ my bare hands!!!
She ended up having to have a plate put in her leg...I took 3 months leave from work to stay at her home & be her nurse, so she wouldn't have to go to a nursing home.
My mom is my dearest friend in the world.
