The sound is only there when it is removed from the shore, stolen away from its raison d'etre.
What lingers within the heart? The same as the shell, the longing to be filled up, the longing to be home.

Apologies if this answer goes tangent,
It is the voice of the seashell which the ocean echoes.
The seashell is static and rests in quiet meditation whispering
its quiet mantra.
The ocean dynamic and wild hears the harmonious and
gentle chant.
The ocean lurches forward and takes up the seashell
with wanton investigation.
The ocean unaware to itself tosses the seashell to and fro
and yet the seashell continues in its soft contemplation.
The ocean replicates that mantra which it hears, but to
a massive decibel for it is unaware of itself.
The ocean deposits the seashell on the beach and recedes
off the shore.
The ocean attempts to accumulate into itself its wide surface,
but it is fluid and must remain in motion.
The ocean expands to its own awareness and as it
approaches the shore once more it observes the stationary
seashell quietly meditating.
And so the ocean and the seashell dance in an oscillation
of reciprocal identities both incapable of achieving the
other's state.

The Memories,and Desire Linger...the search to find...again...that Lasting,Secure love to which one has Lost...a Lonely Heart,and or Soul is constantly reaching,reaching,hoping,and praying for that someone Specials hand...to again feel that Special feeling of a Life shared,and the Fragrance of your past presence....Lingers within a Lonely Heart....

some questions,
"where did i go wrong?"
"why can't anyone understand me?"
"where will i find the peace i am looking for?"
"where will i find the other half of my heart?"
some regrets, which lingers in form of memories...
some tears, some words, some "touch", some "fragrance"...
some dreams, some expectations of answers to the questions which lingers inside ...like the voice of the ocean which is trapped inside the shell...waiting to picked up and listened to...to be freed from the shell...in the same way....the questions lingers inside waiting to be answered by someone or something...
