You could deify gravity in such a manner, it would not be so different to any other god. people believed in lightning gods, sea gods, forest gods etc Athusanshir - god of Quantum Physics Giving praise to a maker, has not always been related to a god, if we take a look at ancient China, or any other culture where they deified their dead, worshipping the ancestors and asking them for advice, we can see evidence of deification and worship, giving thanks etc. Gods appeared as man grew in knowledge, and the desire to know increased, as he explored the earth, his need to know answers grew. Gods were a logical device, used to explain the reason for all that is, even the Christian God came from a much larger pantheon at one point. Ancient man knew that if he should throw a stone in the air, it would come back down, despite what people believe it was not first discovered by Newton, if that is true, missile weapons would never have been used for fear of the arrow or stone never landing anywhere. many of the laws of Nature, are not new, people knew of them, but simply attributed them to a creator or a deity. Instead of calling it Gravity, they would have said it was the will of so and so, but it was exactly the same thing, they knew it was the same thing, they just didn't name it Gravity, or know about the attributes of our World Type. Man has watched the stars for thousands of years, and many of the stars and even planets we know now, were discovered many hundreds of years ago, those in the Middle-east were famed for the wisdom and knowledge of the Stars and the planet Venus has played an important role in many ancient mythologies. It's not brainwashing to give thanks for simply being alive, it shows appreciation, not submission. It's why some of the oldest morals were to respect and obey your direct creators, your parents. It's why clans stood together, to live, giving thanks and praise to their leader\leaders, giving thanks for a bountiful hunt or harvest etc. It wasn't brainwashing, but being happy and joyous. No one shows appreciation for anything anymore, people struggle to say thank you to each other, let alone giving off a whispered thanks or a sigh of relief, when the fury of nature doesn't wipe out the human race. It's never seemed wrong to me to appreciate living, the touch of grass, the mountain air on your face, the snow beneath your feet. Those things make life worth living, not arguing how it came to be, but simply enjoying it. I could care less whether a creator in the form a sentient god or a creator in the form of chaotic nature made these things, i enjoy them all to the same extent.
