Your husband is correct! If baby is proping up on his own, he's okay on his tummy. That's his cue that he's ready.
There's no magical age where it's safe - and SIDS has been linked to plenty of other things besides sleep position.

Well they say for 1 year. But I can tell you this I have a 7 month old who was a preemie. And and she has been sleeping on her tummy since she was 3 months. And I was afraid at first, but this was the only way she would sleep. She did not sleep to well on her back at all. But your husband is right as along as he can lift his head and prop his slef up he should be fine.

When they start turning themselves on their stomach to sleep you let them be. Most babies can't roll over until 4-6 months. Get a good night sleep and leave your baby to sleep how he's comfortable. My daughter never liked being on her stomach and then she started rolling in her sleep between 5-6 months. Her pediatrician said that she is fine on her stomach if she is rolling herself.

As long as he can roll over, he should be fine.
I always put my babies to sleep on their backs and if they rolled over so be it.
My daughter (4 1/2 months old) just starting rolling over but not during the night yet. She has always slept on her back.

well my first son only slept on his tummy from newborn, that's when he was only comfortable, and would stop crying. and my second son which is 4 months old, from 15 days old he sleeps only on his tummy. that's the only way he will sleep, so i put him. no problem.:) if he's on his back there is no way he will sleep.

As soon as he can roll over both ways and lift his head and chest off the ground he can sleep on his tummy. I always put my daughter on her back, and then she would roll over if she wanted too.

hi,
they say that when your baby is able to roll over, HE will pick his own favorite position to sleep. So i dont know how your baby sleeps in his crib, but give him a chance to move around, remove sleep positioners, or anything that could stop him. That would be my best guess.. good luck!

They need to stay on their back untill they are able to turn over from their back to their tummy. Once they start moving all around and turning over you shouldn't have to worry.

usually when they can roll over by themselves. my son stopped sleeping on his stomach at 4 1/2 months. only because he had gotten a cold and they say sleeping on his stomach helped him breath. but i noticed that when he was on his stomach he slepr better so i let him stay on his stomach. at first i was worried to and always checking on him but he was fine.
