I have windows vista and background colors and screen much bigger. I can not see the screen, and is black and white and my computer is not the same. The kids said they have no idea what button they pressed. I need help fast because I want my regular normal screen back.

http://www.mepis.org has the answer on a single free ISO that you burn to CD. Then, put it into the CD and reboot, so it comes up Live.
Much faster than Vista, and can run Beryl (3D with cube on screen! Different desktops on each cube face, plus, in the background!)
But, if you don't know how to tweak your preferences, or hit the default button, then this might be too much for ya...

I'm not sure what you "kids" might have done, but try looking around in the desktop properties. Right click an open area on your desktop and look around in Graphics Properties, and in Personalize. They may have changed some settings here.
Next, you could give the kids their own account without permissions. Go to Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. Click on "Manage Another Account". Here you can set up a separate account for the kids, and you can set some Parental Controls.
