Whoa! Before you uninstall and reinstall - which should be the fix of last resort, I suggest you go for an antivirus scan and antispyware in Safe Mode. In this way, Windows will not be loaded and hopefully you will catch any self-executable viruses.
Windows XP Safe Mode
Source: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm
This is an excellent link – explains well and includes screen shots.
1. To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
2. Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
3. Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP safe mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the safe mode screen.
Note: I have found that when coming out of Safe Mode, my desktop icons are all over the place. Just drag them back.
If you've been "playing around" with Windows in trying to get rid of this, you may need a repair. Here are links to that:

If you don't know what you're doing, have someone that does help you. Here are full instructions on reformatting your hard drive and re-installing Windows XP. Make sure you have your drivers CDs and everything that came with your computer before you start. Also, save all files that you need/want to a CD before you do it, as those files will be erased. Good luck.

Yes, you can re-install Windows. Just simply insert the Windows CD/DVD to the CD/DVD-ROM, then boot from that CD/DVD. Just remember to format your hard disk before install a new Windows to make sure that trojan/virus are deleted.

It is probably better to try AVG (www.grisoft.com) first

try adaware
or spybot

yeah just insert your recovery disk that came with your computer or that you made after you bought your computer and follow the on screen instruction to format. You'll lose everything you've added onto your computer since you bought it though.. so back up any files you want to keep (pics, music, vids, address books, favorites)
