You get a HUGE gold star for all your doing... If there are things you can't wash by hand that HAVE to be washed in a washer....It's about $1-$2 dollars a load depending on where you go. All in quarters too... Where I went when I was at an apt. It cost $1.25 for a load and .75 cents to dry. But most of the time when I didn't have the money what I would do is Wash out my bath tub, fill it like 1/2 full depending on my "load" (all divided by colors and everything) Put in a Cap full of detergent, and *swish* and *agitate* and *stir* (sometimes I had to rub for the really bad ones) like a washing machine for a good 5-10 min, then drain the tub, and "shower" off each piece of clothing individually. I then rung and hung them up in the bedroom on my makeshift clothes line to dry which was conveniently located under my heating vent in the ceiling. Ahhh...the good old days.
But I wasn't washing for six back then either...So Kudos to you!

Don't have them wash them. They charge by the pound. 6 people create a lot of dirty clothes and that could be costly.
Use triple or quad load machines they will cost you between $5-7.00 and at least 3 dryers split the loads evenly in the dryers. Use newer equipment because you are bound to pay less money.

Use one of those giant super washers, but make sure you use COLD water, OK (this I know from experience). It costs around 6 or 7 bucks, but you can put like 40 pounds of clothes in there. If you feel really thrifty, you can bring them home to hang on the line, but if you use the dryers there, seperate the big load into four smaller loads, they'll dry faster. The dryers are usually a quarter for ten minutes (don't use the 'high' setting, use 'medium' for the dryers).

I spend $4.50 on the triple load washer. That fits a totally stuffed, 3 foot tall laundry bag. $1.50 for the single load washer. I dry the clothes for about 40 minutes which is $1.25 in each dryer (.25 cents for 8 minutes)

I've used them and they do a fine job. (-: I've never caught any bad diseases, at any rate. Maybe the heat of the dryer kills any bad things. Just check the drum before you wash anything. Try not to think about the negatives, and think about the positives -- like clean clothes and not having to lug around 200 pounds of luggage! However, if you are *really* worried and want to take the time and money, run an empty load with a cup of bleach. But, I think it's a waste of time.

Oh my hell girl! I wish you lived close. I would tell you to come do your laundry at my house. I feel for you! I think it's $.75 a load but I don't know. What's the matter with the washer? You deserve more that a star!

You can have a star! Ask a friend if you can give her the $20 and wash your clothes at her house. Maybe she wont even take it as long as you bring your own soap and stuff- I would not charge my friend in this situation.

You really ARE washing them by hand? I was just kidding. I really did have to do that though. I'd see how far the $20 would go at the laundromat then maybe do the rest at home by hand. Good luck to you.
