The question was posed earlier about shouldn't homosexuals have separate change rooms?
When did the theory come about that us homosexuals somehow are after every gay AND straight person out there, with nothing but sex on our minds. This same intellect (or lack thereof) then compares us to pedophiles etc.. It gets very aggravating for me personally.
But just so people know, we have class, we do things behind closed doors, we are not staring every man/woman down and trying to sleep with every man/woman we see. There are people of all sexualities that are classless.

OMG, gopher..you are so correct. It's always the most flamboyant that are portrayed and then made to seem like that is how or what pride is.

Ignorance and the media.
The media has painted gay people out to be a certain way. Unfortunately, for a lot of people, those are the only gay people they "know."
Another example is press coverage of gay pride parades. I've been to a handful, and most of the men/women there are very laid-back and non stereotypical. The media gets a 30 second clip of a guy in leather rocking out to Cher, and before you know it, that's their sound bite for every gay story.
It's unfortunate.

There are many reasons that people think this but all in all it boils down to one main reason. To start, bieng gay, we are very open about our sexuality and sexual nature. Now thats not saying we are going around and humping everything in sight, but we are a bit more open about expressing our sexuality even in the most suttle of expressions (shirtless boys dancing at bars). Sex is a main part of gay or straight people. Gay people however, have learned to embrace it and talk about it rather than hide it. In the gay community we do have people that are outlandish about their sexual escapades, and others that keep it behind closed doors. If we think back to the 50's 60's with straight people, sex is something that we all knew happened due to babies, but it wasnt really discussed. With the gay community, we know it happens, its part of what defines us as bieng gay and we did talk about it. But I digress, now a days, sex is everywhere whether its gay, straight, bi... its everywhere. Sex sells. So why do people boil sex down in a negative manner when it comes to gay people. The main reason which I think all sterotypes of gay people always comes back to is "FEAR". People are afraid of things they do not understand and that do not conform to their sense of values or a perfect world. If one thinks about it, sex is really the only aspect in which one can really attack us. We cant be critisized by our jobs our our homes because they fall in synch with society. I cant remember who did the study, but there was one done that shows the average gay person makes more than a hetrosexual one. So if we start making more money, having more fun and doing all the things people somehow wish they could be doing, we attract jealousy and fear. But that is my opinion anyway, I am sure there are going to be some rebuttles. We have come a long way since the 70's in being accepted, the best we can do now is educate people and hopefully change their views so we can proceed to move forward in equality.

Who ever wrote that question obviously has never been around many homosexuals. Sure there are homosexuals who are more promiscuous than others... but that goes for straight ppl too. I think the person who wrote this question is reading too much into the stereotypes of homosexuality.
WICKEY,
I was not talking about you. I am sorry did not make that clear. I was talking about the person who had originally posted the question/statement about separate change rooms. I am agreeing with you. LOL

I'm a nympho,so unfortunately I live up to that stereotype, so I will acknowledge that the few people like me in society set those stereotypes. MOST lesbians however do not. And hit shows like the L Word ( Although I love that show)
Make it extremely hard for lesbians to shake that stereotype.
I wish we didn't have to be grouped or categorized, no matter how active our sex lives are.

I think a lot of it is because what we do doesn't make children. I've heard straight people talk as if pregnancy (or jumping through hoops to prevent it) is the price of admission into sexual enjoyment. We can get STDs, but we don't have that.
What I think is really funny is that the ugliest straight men act the scaredest of gay men! And you have to laugh and think, "I'm sure you have *nothing* to worry about."

Because they view homosexuality as a "behavior" rather than being a real human being. Some even state it's a "chosen behavior."
They think of nothing but sex, and, to be honest, their extreme thoughts on sex and sexuality are very disturbing.

Because a huge chunk of the straight world is sort-of OK with the idea of homosexual sex, but terrified of the idea of homosexual love. Ergo, the only response they can come up with is to hypersexualize it. "It's ALL about sex! They're doing it all the time! It's what they're gay FOR!"
It's ridiculous, but I honestly think it's true.

I blame most of this on societies blind ignorance towards the LGBT community & on the the media's hypersexualization of gays & lesbians. 8 times out of 10, when a gay male is portrayed in film or tv, he is a very sexually UNinhibited character with many partners and at extreme high risk for HIV. When lesbians or bisexual women are prtrayed, they typically show us as sex-craved vixens who are out to hunt every piece of a.ss within radius. It's ridiculous, false and RUDE.

Ignorance. Plain and simple. Throw in a little bit of fear of the unknown, and it is natural that a straight person who does not understand homosexuality (and probably doesn't want to) would feel that way. Doesn't make it right, but there it is.

part of it is the way the media portrays gays. 1 example is "jack" on will and grace. Always being very sexual. Unfortunately, some people equal Jack to all gay people.
