I'm 18 and I have been on ORtho Tri Cyclin Lo for my irregular periods for a while. I recently started having sex with my boyfriend. We used condoms in the beginning but now we do not becasue I am on this birth control. We practice the infamous pull out method, but I am still on this birthcontrol . I wanna know If becasue I am still on this BC am I relatively safe or should I get stronger BC?

You sound like you & your boyfriend are responsible about contraception, but I would talk with your doc. & see how affective your BC pills are in terms of preventing pregnancy & if you need to switch to a different stronger brand.

Read the label to see what the efficacy rate is. My understanding is that birth control is birth control. They just vary the amount fo hormones from brand to brand. As lond as you are using the BC properly (taking at the same time every day, and not skipping days) Ortho Tri Cyc. Lo should be just fine. However, using a condom protects you from STDs such as HPV (as we are now hearing about) that can later cause cervical cancer. So, I think you are probably safe from pregnancy, but consider using condoms for safetly from STDs as well. Good luck to you!

You are relatively safe but using multiple methods of birth control makes it 100% safe.

I agree that you should consult with your doctor. The pill is indeed effective, but using it with a condom is even more effective. Just continue to be safe no matter what you decide:)

Its really something for your doctor to help you with cause he knows you best. It IS possible that what your taking is not ENOUGH!
