WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE OIL SHOULD BE USED, AND HOW OFTEN DOES SATURN RECOMMEND THE OIL BE CHANGED? Saturn recommends using oil that has been certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for gasoline engines. API certified oil can be identified by a "star burst" symbol on the front of the container. Do not use any oil that doesn't carry this symbol. SAE 5W30 viscosity oil is the best for your vehicle in most weather conditions. However, you can use SAE 10W30 if you operate your car in a majority of the time in temperatures above 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) or -7 degrees (Celsius). Do not use other viscosity oils. Refer to Owner's Manual. Saturn recommends changing the oil and filter every three months or 5,000 kms, whichever comes first, for most driving conditions.

First you should take the car to your mechanic or oil change shop. Change your oil if you don't know what type is already in it. Oil is the blood of your car, so if you like or love your car, get it done properly. It may be synthetic (man made). A good shop will 'flush' out the old oil first. Then at the shop they can make sure the oil drain plug is replaced properly and there are no leaks. Then find out what type was used, some oils are thicker than others, so that you can 'top up' the oil if needed.

Ask the Saturn dealership. They can probably order an owner's manual for you, or you may be able to find on on Ebay, too.

well if you live in the north with cooler temps, use 5w-30 motor oil. But if you live in a warmer part of the country, use 10w-30 motor oil.
hope this helps!

Just take to a jiffy lube or someplace like they know what to use. Plus they will recycle it for you.
