Once my boyfriend and I get married, we will live in my mom’s house, and we will pay some sort of a rent, but we will pay for our own bills and food. But I’m having second thoughts, my mom could be overbearing, and we might not have peace of mind. If that’s the case we will just rent, outside our home, because if we stay at my mother’s house, it will also be like renting, and we night live in a fishbowl existence.

This is a stupid idea.

Don't live with your mom. If you can't afford to be on your own, then you aren't ready for marriage....you aren't grown up enough.

Get your own place if you can! My husband and I lived with my mother in law for three months, and although I loved her dearly, it was difficult to feel totally at home. She was used to things being done her way, and would get on my husband's case if she thought we were not doing things the way she was used to. he never actively interfered, but being in the same house, it always felt as if we were under scrutiny from her. You are right in saying you would live a fish bowl existence, it seemed as if everything we did was watched, and if we decided to go to bed early, instead of watching TV, there were smirks all around! I found that our love making really suffered, for quite a few months after we moved into our own home as well; we just didn't feel that comfortable making love while everyone was sitting in the TV room. So do take that into consideration as well before you make your decision.

I agree that if you can't afford to move out on your own and your boyfriend can't afford it then you need to wait to get married until you can. Bad idea to live with parents. HUGE MISTAKE! No matter how well you get along. The only time I have seen this work is in the cause of my sister and her husband, but they are both in their forties and his Mom needs the extra help since she is losing her mind a bit.

One has to weigh the advantages of living with other members of the family. Some inconveniences r bound to be caused but imagine when u have baby and she takes care of the child in ur absence. Even if u pay for the day care to ur mom, the type of service u get from her can never be had with money elsewhere.

move out away from your mom- if you already know she has a tendancy to be overbearing that will put unnecessary stress on you guys. we didi that with my mom for less tahn 6 months and it was a terriable idea, she had the mindset that it was still her house and even though we were paying rent she could and did tell us what to and not to do. it's just a bad plan

Don't start married life living with your mom. If you want to have a successful marriage, go rent a cheap apartment....

If you and your future husband want to have great relationship with your mom, it's better for beginning to find your own apartment and live with your mistakes but by your own rules.

I would definately RETHINK that situation.

When you first get married, you need time and space so that you can learn one another and get to know one another.
