The study of physical characteristics is about what makes up the appearance of the individual. Human characteristics include personality, temperament, drive, tolerance, patience, etc. Is the person outgoing or shy? Does the person have the ability to think things through or is he spontaneous. Does he love with his heart or mind?

Physical characteristics point to the outward appearance of a person e.g. height, weight, looks, moles, dimples...in short, a description of how a person looks. Human characteristics are descriptive of the qualities of all men in general e.g. man's natural behavior or manner which is distinct from that of other animals or species.
