if your goldfish are in the 5gallon tank with a 10gallon filter you mentioned in your earlier question they are undoubtedly suffering from poor water quality and lack of air. goldfish get huge (depending on the kind 8" to 24") and are EXTREMELY messy. do a 25% water change immediately.

the smallest kind (fancies, whihc have fat round bodies) need 10gallons each when young and 15 gallons each when adults.
the larger kinds (commons, which are long and thin) need 40gallons for hte first with 20gallons for each additional one when young and should be in ponds as adults.

You're wrong. Bettas don't GASP for air, they breath air at the surface. That is normal for bettas, they breath that way. Your fish are suffocating to death, and gasping at the surface likely because they are in too small an aquarium, or heaven forbid a bowl, and there is not enough oxygen in there. Five gallons is way too small for a goldfish, and if there is no filter or airstone then air is used up quickly. Get them into a larger aquarium asap, at least 10 to 20 gallons, they are dying a horrible death right now. I feel terrible for them. (goldfish don't act like they gasp for air when they want to eat, they just wiggle around and stare at you - your fish ARE dying and I hope you do something. They are probably trying to get some of those bubbles, you need bubbles INSIDE the water, and a bigger aquarium. If they breath in too much surface air they will die of swim bladder also. All the way around you have a bad situation there.

There are a couple of situations where fish will do this. One is when there isn't enough dissolved oxygen in the water - either from the lack of water movement to distribute the oxygen (this happens when you don't have a filter or an airstone in the tank) or when the water temperature is too warm (goldfish should have water 65-75o).

This also happens when the ammonia and nitrite levels are high (in which case you should test your water or do a 25% water change), or if the fish are infected with a gill parasite (you can treat this with an antiparasitic medication, such as Clout).

as a results of fact they're gasping for air. One goldfish demands a 20 gallon tank with 10 greater gallons for each greater fish. they could desire to have a filter out it is rated for 2 times the size of the tank. it is sweet to leave the water down somewhat interior the tank to create basically somewhat a waterfall effect to characteristic oxygen to the water. Partial water transformations of 25% could be carried out weekly alongside with gravel vacuuming. Oxygen pills are ineffective. you could desire to maintain good water high quality without consistent with man made capacity. **

most probably ur tank is full of amonia!! change 75% of the water. do change 25% of water everyweek. and get a good filter. dont allow the filter located too high from the water lever as it will produce many bubbles and will make the water more dirty. may try to feed them green pees for 3 days without feeding them normal food.

They could be hungry or not getting enough air. Try switching around your air filter around so more bubbles go underwater. Or try putting the air filter underwater.

Also filter out 25% of your water every 2 weeks.

Hope it works :)

you need to add an airrator to the tank and do 25% water changes, your ammonia is probably extremly high! id suggest doing a 50% water change and adding 50% conditioned water you can buy stuff like stress coat at you pet store for this. you need to do these water changes or else your fish will die!
