And then you ask yourself, so why bother to answer the question at all then?

I would never ask a dichotomized question. Life just isn't that simple. The people that answer "neither" are simply demonstrating the lack of thought that went into your question. Rarely, if ever, are there only two answers to a question. It is only natural that someone would opt for the obvious third choice.

You COULD make an argument that someone who doesn't like the answers simply should not answer the question. Fair enough. But if you ask a question on a subject that interests people, they are not going to be able to resist. Human nature. I guarantee, unless you are simple-minded, that you are no different. If someone on here asked "Are you the dumbest person that ever lived, or the stupidest?" What would you answer?

I would say if you're asking people for their opinion on the best possible choice, giving them two choices only means that you've limited yourself. But they may be more than able to think of several other, more favorable, ideas. Rather than get upset because the two choices you thought of were not what they'd agree with, you could listen to their advice, and take whatever advice you think will work better for you.

It's all about choices, people like to choose their own possibilities, why limit a question to a few answers, people can come up with much more creative answers that choice A. or B.

I've never asked a question but when I answer, I usually pick one of the choices and say why. The few occasions when I haven't, it was because the choices didn't apply to my life or situation. That may be the case with this guy considering his answer. Hope this helps!!!

I agree...most of the time they are just saying that just to get and answer out. But you really want to know!! If you ask a question, you want an answer! I wish some people would take a little of consideration into answering some of these questions.

It's called, Being Creative.

eg. some Idiot Boss tells you, Do this his way or you're fired.
if you have to choose between 2 things that you don't like ... choose the third.
Go over his head / come up with a better idea / set up microphone to catch him doing something his boss won't like and greymail him to keep your job

I think that if a person doesn't like the choices, then don't answer the question.
