There is no difference. They're both addicts and both destroy lives. In fact, alcohol is a drug..it's just the more socially acceptable drug.

An addiction is not physical, dependency is. Drugs like cocaine and tobacco are addictive meaning that an addict craves them. Alcohol and opiates (heroin, codeine, morphine) are dependent so the body goes though withdrawal with out them hence hangovers

No difference really. Alcohol is said to be a disease that is carried through the gene pool but drugs can be addicting because of the substance content, i.e. in meth. (i think)

they are both addictions with separate problems....all drug addicts do NOT sell stuff or steal to feed their habit~~~i.e. people who smoke weed usually just smoke weed... as you said alcoholics just drink. But sometimes...alcoholics can become verbally/physically combative or abusive to others without even realizing it. Of course hard drugs have a whole other set of issues~~

Ummm? Let me see if I can explain this clearly...I'm not sure. Ok, one is addicted to drugs...and one is addicted to alcohol. Does that help clear it up?

There really is no difference. Alcohol is a drug and lethal, the same as cocaine, heroin etc. The only difference is that alcohol is readily available and legal.
