I have a dell brand flat screen monitor for years and it was working great. Then a couple months ago something weird started happening. After I turn the monitor off and try to turn it on, it goes off. I have to keep pressing the on and off button on the monitor because if will start up but then black out or turn off again and this process repeats! It takes like 20 times of me pressing the on and off button before it goes on and stays on! It will eventually stay on but only after like 20 times of pressing the on and off button and it's very annoying and as long as I don't turn the monitor off it stays on and works fine. What is going on? I checked everything on the computer and I even reset the monitors settings but it didn't help, it never did this before it's odd. Does this mean it's breaking down and I have to go buy a new monitor or do I have it on some weird setting that is making it do this?!? HELP!!!!

That sounds like an issue with power convertor in the monitor. That is what changes the 110v current from the wall outlet to the voltage the monitor needs for its different components.

The reason it keeps going out is that it is getting too much power and flipping the "circut breaker" (best analogue I can think of) in the monitor.

That is a sign that the monitor is dying. One of these times you will probably hear a "pop" and then it will not power up at all. Start saving your pennies because you will need them shortly to replace the monitor.

Why not just leave the flat panel monitor on. I do it with mine all the time.

When the computer shuts down the monitor goes into a stand by mode. You should see a "yellow" led somewhere on the front panel. In my wifes Dell monitor it is built into the On/Off switch.

Just shut the PC down and don't shut off the monitor. LCD's don't create heat and they don't "burn images" onto the viewable area. It doesn't hurt to leave them in the "stand by" mode.

This would be one way to deal with the issues you are having. The other solution would be to start shopping for a new monitor. Obviously there is something amiss electronically with yours, and getting it repaired will probably be as much, if not more, than the price of a new monitor.

Hope this helps.

Ah... the ever worrisome question. I find that with flatscreen monitors, the wires in the back have a way to wiggle out of their sockets. That would be the first place I would look at. The other idea is that if you have Windows XP, look under your screen saver settings and see if there is an option for turning your monitor off.

Hope I was helpful, and good luck!

i could think of that's a concern with the visual exhibit unit in case you're specific that it is not the cable. My first concept replaced into that the cable is unfastened yet once you're specific this is not the case, it sounds like there is something incorrect with the visual exhibit unit and it may give up working thoroughly. even if if it remains below guarantee take it in to have it regarded at. Now which you're saying the visual exhibit unit flashes different colorations and is going fuzzy i could think of for specific that's a concern with the visual exhibit unit. you may try hooking it as much as somebody else's laptop to work out if it does an identical ingredient. if so, this is the visual exhibit unit..
