Currently residing in Detroit and looking for a move. I've been doing a lot of research but it doesn't compare to people who lived/live there. I'm looking for the following qualifications:

1: NOT spread out (Detroit does a number on my mileage)
2: Low crime area (Aren't we all)
3: Warm weather cities
4: Viable job market

The cities I was considering was Jacksonville, Memphis and Atlanta, but now am having second thoughts because of various reasons. Can you help me?

Jacksonville is spread out...crime is bad but it depends on where you live; some areas are great....job oppurtunities are great since jacksonville is like a business city

memphis and atlanta are spread out and high crime. also, the jobs in memphis and Jacksonville aren't that great.

try Charlotte (if you want larger), Raleigh if you want the full southern experience, (not Durham). You can also try places outside of Houston, such as round rock or katy. Albuquerque is really nice (more south west). Asheville is also a great smallish southern town. the south doesn't really do compact cities, every city you will drive but at least Charlotte has less traffic and is less spread out than atl. Louisville ky may not seem like a first choice esp for blacks but it's beautiful and absolutely amazing. Charlotte, and Louisville have real black populations. for some reason atl is touted as a "black mecca", when really it's just segregated and crime ridden. just because there's a lot of blacks around doesn't mean it's a paradise for blacks.

Perhaps you may think of moving to Durham, NC. I think this would be the best city for minorities (especially African Americans). The Duke University there is one of the best in America, and around 30-40% of its students are Blacks. Also Raleigh and Cary are very good cities with relatively low crime rates.

Atlanta, GA is OK, but I'd advise you to live in the suburbs, like Oxford. The crime rate will be relatively low. Dallas, TX is also a very friendly city with about 25% of its population Blacks.

By the way, why don't you try Charleston, SC and its beautiful suburbs? I really believe that any place in South Carolina is good.

As for Memphis, TN...I would say you'll have the best charbroiled and flamegrilled beef burgers and beef sausages there, but try seeing a safe neighborhood there.

At last, Alabama, Mississipi and Louisiana are good places; especially that you'll have the opportunity to legally know many under-aged girls; although the weather may become very awful during the summer.

Good luck with your plan!

Atlanta is as spread out as they get.

Consider Charlotte, NC, Macon GA, Greenville or Columbia SC.
