Check out monster.com and careerbuilder for ideas on writing a job description. Look under sales. I'm sure there are thousands of posting, so you should get a good idea from there. I own a business that develops marketing and business plans for small business owners. I have never heard of anyone asking their employees to write the job descriptions. This is something the employer does. Maybe they just want to see if you know what it is you are supposed to be doing.

This is very common in small companies. Here's how to start. Write down everything you (the invididual tasks) ... do this over several days. About the 4th day, try to create 3 major categories that each of these fall into.

Your job description will be 3 paragraphs ... one for each of these categories. Use words from the individual task list to create the sentences.

Finally, add an Introductory paragraph.

I have found that people that do this are actually either just too lazy to do it themselves or really don't know what you do!
I have actually just started a new job and in my contract it states that within 3 months I will have written a concise job specification for my role!

This is a form of appraisal, to check you know your job etc.

Just write out a list of all the things you do and what is your responsibility to do.

Do you type letter, answer the phone, make calls, visit clients.

He is testing your ability to rise to a challenge and meet it insofar as he is expecting you to express yourself coherently while remaining on topic and also be flexible in carrying out this assignment. If you refuse, you might be thought of as being not a team player and if you do it exceptionally well, doors might open for you
