Yes, Sachin definitely is among the top batsmen of all time. His statistics reflect this easily. Not all people would agree that he is the best because of his current performances but I believe that every batsman goes through good and bad times. We shouldn't forget the truly amazing innings he has played, the fantastic records he has made and the point that cricket cannot be discussed without his name being mentioned. That's how huge an impact he has had on the sport.
Ponting may be the best batsman right now, but after some years, he too will start going down the slope, while another batsman will start to become popular.
There are many other batsmen who've come and gone and left their mark; Bradman, Viv richards, Sunil Gavaskar..etc. These were all great in their own time. But Sachin will always be the best overall. Because he has always exceeded expectations, unfortunately that's all that people expect now. And when it stops happening, they're too quick to forget his past achievements.

Though Sachin Tendulkar holds many batting records, Sir Donald Bradman is the best batsman in the history of cricket as no batsman could break his batting average till now.

Based on current form, strike rate and runs scored, its Ricky Pointing no doubt.Though Sachin may not be the old Sachin we also knew, Do remember Sachin scored runs against two of the all time best bowlers in history : Glen Mcgrath and Shane warne. So certainly he is among top batsman of the all time.

I think the question can be answered from many angles..
Firstly we have to consider whether it is fair to compare players from across the ages, for instance Bradman and Tendulkar.. Cricket has undergone far too many changes to ever have an even scale of comparison quite frankly..
Even if we do have to, i have to hand that position to the Don just because he consistently performed, as opposed to Tendulkar's erring form in the past, what, 2 years?? People may claim Sachin is past his shelf life but but even his heydays dont compare to the Don's class from long long ago.
I just think it will have to take someone really special to eclipse his feats and i must admit Sachin is nowhere close..
Hmm, Ricky Ponting?? May be, may be not.. It would have been a treat for all us fans to have them both play in the same era..But wishful thinking apart i must say that back then, the Don was the best batsman... And today, ie currently, that honour must go to Ponting..

Sir Don must be the one. But, difficult to compare both Sir Don and Tendulkar due to change in sport technology during past few decades, playing techniques changed lot. If Sir Don continued to play as much as cricket as Tendulkar done, not many can overtake him. Tendulkar arguably the best batsman this generation seen. Ponting is not far behind. But Tendulkar is not been a match winner. He is more like a player following a record. Ponting in that way far ahead.

presently,Ricky Ponting.
the best past batsman, Sir Viv Richards.
the next best batsman (in the future) looks like he could be Michael Clarke, although there is no way to tell for sure.
