I'm black and female and I have multiple degrees and wear suits to work. Here in DC, this really shouldn't be all that rare. However, in the field I work in, 85% of the time, I am the only black female in the vicinity. In my private life, 90% of the time I am the only black female around. Even when surrounded by nothing but other educated black people, I still stick out like a sore thumb (I'm somehow "not in touch with my culture"). Stand out like a sore thumb? Welcome to my daily f*cking reality.
