It is 99% genetics. You can damage your eyes with bright sunlight, but it won't change whether you need glasses or not.

At the age of 40+ most people's eyesight starts deteriorating because they lens becomes increasingly rigid and less easy to focus. The change is slower in some people than in others.

Though acuity is often inherited, the health of your eye is related to care. The eye needs exercise and rest just like the other organs and muscles in your body. There are exercises that can be done to help improve eye health or delay deteriation of sight. Do a search for "vision therapy" and see what you think!

Genetics can play a big part. Everyone in my family but my dad needs glasses. So guess what? So do I. Other factors can contribute like small scale work or doing things in poor light. Taking care of your eyes whether you have good vision or not is very important and it can play a part in keeping them from getting worse.

some people sit closer to the tv than others, some people stare at a monitor longer than others. some people are exposed to chemicals, dusts, and powders. everyones eyes will progress differently due to what they are exposed to. then there is always the what lingers in the family.
