Bullies are cowards and constantly battle their own inferiority.
Bullies are generally not in control of their emotions and highly erratic and prone to outbursts. Not exactly reliable either.
Bullies are often sadistic and delight in the torment that they cause others.
Bullies often progress to being physically violent socially or in their personal relationships. Bullies will think nothing of beating a child, a neighbour, or anyone else who displeases them.
Bullies are not the authority on behaviour by any stretch.

Okay,
In the Merton/Mills Functionalism Model, bullies are exceptionally useful to society, especially during childhood years.
Why should you thank the bully who swiped your lunch money? Becuase he/she gave you an early lesson about how the world works. If you never grew up with a bully around, then got your first job, you could be pressured and manipulated into covering shifts for your "friends," bullies teach you how to evaluate people using more than just physical means. The courage I got from standing up to a bully in middle school taught me that physical presence is not an unstoppable opponent, and I can stand up to anyone and defend my rights. I might have learned that lesson too late were it not for a bully.

No! The world would be a better place without bullies. Would you like your kid to be hit over the head a couple of times and his belonings stolen by a bully, just so that society can observe and learn. Don't be silly.

Bullies are only useful to MH and the government.
"it teaches other people how not to behave towards others" - what is "it"? Are you referring to a person who already knows the difference between right and wrong? So, please list more info on how a person who projects their negative lifestyle on others is useful to society. Please give us some examples.

Typical rhetoric of one trying to defend an indefensible position. Bullies are usually cowards at heart; allways on the defensive. They bluff their way through life attacking others before they themselves can be attacked. But once quieted, they all break down.

Actually the problem of, or usefulness of bullies is not the issue but rather the issue is those who stand around and allow bullying.

People are not who they are by shear circumstance...all are formed for purpose. Believe it or not, it's usually for a single individual's experience, though in process, they have the opportunity to effect many.
Those that we call "bullies" provide much...opportunities for us to know ourselves as forgiving, compassionate, aggressive/passive, hateful, fearful, loving, having physical & mental strengths/weaknesses, etc. And when they grow to realize their own fears which they fed for so long, they often become our most courageous protectors...police, fire fighers, teachers, & self-defense instructors. (LOL)
