The soul not only differs from the body... the relationship between the soul and the body is like a body wearing a garment... the body being the soul and the garment... the body! Every soul atman manifests a chain of bodies (8.4 million manifestations altogether) to cleanse itself of the impurities within (the dross within).
As the metal in an ore cannot separate itself on its own... the impurities within the soul cannot be removed on its own. The soul in the process initially manifests the form of an amoeba (single cell formation)... the first manifestation! It further evolves into multi-cell formation, insect life, plant life, animal life and finally the form of a human being.
It is only as a human being... the soul within can regain its lost pure pristine original form. Only as a human being shall soul atman secure its final release from the cycle of birth and death. It is only when a human being gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha)... does the soul atman within go to the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism)... a point of no return! The body exists because of the mental actions of the "soul".
This is called "Karma". However, no karma lasts forever because its lifespan depends exactly on how much energy was spent when it was created.
Some actions are like drawing a line in the sand with a stick. In a few hours, the line is gone. Others are like carving a line into a stone. In a thousand years it will be gone.
The lifespan of your human body will be exactly as long as your desire to be in it - however, there are other factors which may effect it. Such as the karma of other people etc.
However, the body and mind are NOT two and NOT one. If the body and mind were ONE, then if you cut your finger, the pain should be felt all over the body - but it isn't. The pain is only in your finger. If the body and mind were TWO, then your mind would not know what happened to the body at any given time. So therefore, it is correct to say that they are "not two and not one." Or that they are both "two AND one."

The soul is the first act of your composite. It is the formal cause of your being. Your soul is real and has special properties:
1)Being a first act, your soul has no parts, cannot be taken apart, and is therefore eternal.
2)Your soul is united to your body as it's form which means that it is not the form of any other body, and does not reincarnate.
3) Your soul is also a substantial form which does not disappear when the matter of which it is a form decays.
4)You are not your soul, but are both body and soul.
5)You have only one soul
6)The essence of your soul is not it's power
7)Any nonmaterial substance has a knowing power and the intellect is a power of the soul as is the will
8) Sensation is not a power of the soul alone but belongs to the composite
9)The intellectual power of the soul is error free in it's per se operation
10)The Volition is free in it's per se operation
11)The human intellect is lowest in the order of intellectual powers as would be an alien intellect in a body.
12)The intellect requires a body in order to acquire knowledge in its natural state
13)The natural object of the human intellect is the essence of matter
13)The soul does not occupy space yet is completely in every
part of your body
I claim that these propositions are both secular and provable
from definitions and first principles in scholastic metaphysics

There is no evidence for a soul. If you mean an existence separate from the physical substance of our being. That which is our sense of self, our self awareness, in my opinion is nothing more than the electrical and chemical synaptic connections within the physical brain.
The term Soul, or spirit has religious connotations and only exists in the mind of those who believe in a religious connection. It has more to do with the wants, needs and desires of the individual rather than any scientific reality.
Most primitive cultures believed in a form of afterlife but as those cultures became more sophisticated and scientific based those beliefs tend to dissipate.

God creates both .the body then he pots the soul in that body.after death the body just gos by ,it turns into clay ,this is what it was made of basically. And the soul goes to either to haven or to hell,God creates soul to help the body to be in better condition.so the body is the one who is responsible to earthly deeds like eating ,drinking ,making love ,all kinds of desires .And the soul is the one who is responsible for the spiritual deeds Like praying ,Morales ,all kind of virtues.so the soul guides the body to be in a higher moral behavior.

Of course soul is different from body, by definition.
To say it was 'created' presumes a creator. Those of us who believe in a solely naturalistic universe would instead say that soul, if one exists, evolved.
Then that evolution would be examined for its neurochemical origins and survival value.
There is intriguing yet inconclusive evidence in favor of the existence of soul, but even if it were conclusive, it still would not be sufficient to prove the existence of a creator. It's equally valid to believe that something in the qualitative uniqueness of human consciousness that enables a sort of extraphysical existence.

Your body is important, but your soul is more important than your body. It's the essential part of your existence. Your body fades away whether you like or dislike, but your soul may keep shining throughout years, even more and more luminous. When you grow old & die, your body is not really important; it's your soul that counts.
