Sens fans can answer of course, but most of you will cheerlead, which is ok. i'm looking for objective answers though. If Detroit can manage to win game 6 (and they've got their work cut out for them), then game 7 is on Thursday. By the time the Stanley Cup finals begin, it will most likely be at least a week of rest for the Sens. is it a good thing (to get the rest) or a bad thing (to get out of their rhythm)?

the Sens have never been this deep in the playoffs. the ducks and wings both have. i'm not saying the wings will win. i think they're up a creek. but if they win game 6, then whether they win game 7 or not ... there STILL will have to be a game 7. i question the Sens preparation because of their inexperience in a Cup Finals. it's not like the other 3 rounds.

pretty good answers so far.

Antoine, good points. i'm not taking anything away from the Sens. I think they have a good chance to win it all. they are a very fitting and deserving East champion. however, i simply do not believe that the Stanley Cup finals can be predicted on previous rounds. whether this year or any other year. Ottawa has a lot of momentum, but they are in uncharted territory. now, that doesn't automatically mean they'll lose. i'm just suggesting that they may have a significant rest before they go up against a team who is closer to their last win, and also has experience w/ the Finals. they won't have the Finals "butterflys" as much as the Sens. you're right, not all the players are back from those years, but a lot are. especially on the wings. i think that the West needs to take the Sens seriously. i'm just questioning if the Sens will be ready. i know that if the roles were reversed, and Detroit had a week off, i'd be a little nervous, just knowing how the wings can be.

It'll hurt them. I saw a small segment on TSN on teams who had to wait that long before the next series and most of them ended up losing it. I remember seeing Detroit being swept by New Jersey at a Cup Final back in the 90s because they ended up sweeping whoever they played in the Conference final. However, Edmonton last year swept Anaheim and they put up one hell of a fight against Carolina. The statistics say that Ottawa's going to lose, but there's still that small chance they'll either put up a good series or lose it because of the time off.

Huge Sens fan here (wink.)

I would like to duck out and call this a non-factor. If they had injured players that will make it back due to the rest that would be great. They don't. If the long layoff will lead to lost focus and rust that would be bad. It won't.

No matter what the circumstances, it seems like this team is rallying around history. If the first 3 series didn't shrug the "chokers" label off them, then nothing will. They are focused. There is plenty of character to keep them amped up and ready.

I think it will come down to the West being able to solve the great mystery that is Ray Emery. Just kidding. If the Western champs can beat the pseudo-trap that Ottawa is blanketing the opposition with and get to Emery early, often and not low percentage shots from the half boards, the Sens may fall. It's as effective as the Jersey trap from a few years back, but it's no where near as boring. They are a lot better at cranking it up and going the other way. NJ would win 1-0, not 4-1.

Either way it's going to be an exciting, competitive series and I can't wait.

It'll be good for the sens to heal the bumps and bruises. Although the whole 'losing momentum' is slightly overrated.

The Sens had a week's rest before the conference finals. What happened in that game? Sabres were able to outplay the sens for the first period of game one. After that, the sens got back into their groove and eventually won the first game 5-2.

I think the first period of the first game might be a little tough on the sens, but after that, they'll be into it again.

Also, sure the Red Wings and ducks have been to the finals before. But how many players of both teams are still around from those trips? In the end, it's still a playoff series, it's still the first team to win 4 games. The sens have already proven that they're up the the task. They've beaten the #5, #2, and #1 seeds in the east, including the president's trophy winners. If that doesn't mean anything, then I don't know what does.

Indeed, that last game was definitely entertaining. I was impressed how well the Devils held the lead for as long as they did. Heatley's goal late in the third had me jumping off the couch in joy. Overtime is always intense, even if the players play more conservatively, I love watching it. It was was anyone's game, and the Devil's got the break they needed. This is shaping up to be an epic series. I really want the Sens to win it, but even if they don't, I'll be happy with the good hockey I've had the privilage to witness in this series.

A week of rest would be about right-it's a long season and then the grind of the playoffs. I'm sure they could use a rest. Any rust will be shaken off during the first few minutes of the first game of the finals. If the Sens had of swept the Sabres then the layoff might have too long, but's that's not an issue now.

I actually think the rest would hurt them. They are already getting enough rest--no serious injuries (that I know of), and they are already getting a 6 or 7 day layoff even if the Ducks win it in six games. Plus they got lots of rest after both of their first two series.

Usually I proiritize rest over staying in your rhythm. But because of the way the Senators are playing, and the amount of rest they are getting already, and the lack of injuries to their club, I think I'd rather get the series started if I was Ottawa.

However, I don't think it will matter a lot. They won game 2 twice coming off of extended layoffs. And I think the Senators are so confident that they will just go out there and play.

It will probably hurt them. Right now the reason the Sens have been the best team in the East is because they are feeding off of emotion and energy from eachother and are on a roll, when you stop that for a longer period of time, it can throw you off track. The Sens arent banged up or hurting so I'm guessing they would love to be on the ice right now as we speak.

This was hard for me to type out because I am a die hard Sabres fan, but you guys whooped on us and deserve the cup, keep it in the East!

i'm not a sens fan but i think they are going to win the cup. i thought the sens would be rusty for the game 1,s in round 2 &3 after long layoffs but they looked great in both. they are very focused this year.

They are going to be fine regardless of the situation. They are much stronger than both the teams from the West. Besides, Detroit isn't going to win the next two games so the question is kind of irrelevant.

i think it'll hurt them, it helps to keep playing and keep the excitment there and always present. also they could get a little out of shape. they can have as many practices as they want but nothing compares to a stanley cup final game...
