The system restore point data size is more in Vista™, so it had used more space, and also the games which you have installed from DVD takes about 7 to 8 GB hard disk space after full installation, no need to worry, i have also got the same problem but checked it and then relaxed.

Some of that space being lost can be contributed to the games, but there are still 20 GB not accounted for. I would say that some of it is temporary material downloaded by the games, which could be up to 1 GB, and the rest is probably one of the many dumbed-down features of Vista downloading more fancy graphics and stuff to look more user friendly.

At most times, the installed program leaves alot of tracks on the "Temp" folder. also there is the "hibernation file" which takes some space, and a couple of other things.
you can find all of them here :
Go to "my computer", right click on "C", choose "properties" and then choose "disk clean up". just mark everything you don't want to save. and then cilck OK.

Vista creates many background database files for quick searches, etc. This is normal.
