I don't want to be ripped off! I've put my 2004 Ford Ka in to be serviced and been told the brakes need repaired. Before I go back to get it (and the bill) I'd like to know how much roughly they'll charge me. It's the front and back brakes that need sorted.

best bet is doing it yourself, disk brakes are pretty easy need a few sockets and a 6 inch c-clamp . iv'e seen where some shops will buy a set then only replace one wheel so in 6 months or less you will have to do it again.

Legally, they should inform you of the price before going ahead with the repairs....pricing on brake repairs can be all over the place depending on what's being repaired and how much labor rate per hour the shop charges. Get a quote from the shop if you can and what exactly is being done and then call around to other shops to see what they will charge for the same work.

You can save a lot of money by doing a lot of things yourself. I can do all 4 sets on my car for ~$40. That's a lot cheaper than $96/wheel.
