...about how much do you think you'll spend? If you've had one, how much did you spend?

I'm asking because we've seen so many straight bridezillas, and this article reminded me of that.

My wife and I spent approximately $12,500, and that is because I had sold my truck (nothing but a PITA in New York City) and because her uncle gave us $10 K for the wedding as a present. Most of that went to flying in and putting up out-of-state relatives and friends. My brother DJ'd, and my wife sewed both our dresses.

How about you? How much will you, or did you, spend? Do you want your wedding to be as elaborate as any mixed-sex one, or do you want it to be simple, or do you just want to pay $50 at the courthouse, or something else altogether?

I'm really looking forward to answers and stories! :-)

My partner and I have been together for over six years, and now that Same Sex unions are legal in our home country - South Africa, we are planning a union for January next year. It will be a small, intimate affair with only close family and friends, and is being held in a friends garden outside the city. The total so far for is around R15,000 - that's just over US$2,500 - so not really expencive. We felt it was not nessesary to go OTT on 'our' big day, and we plan to enjoy a very long, very expencive honeymoon! My parents will be hosting the ceremony and also paying for the whole affair! Sooooooo liberated!

that is a good question.. personally to me i'm not going to go over the top with money, as at the moment i wouldn't be able to afford extravegence like some of the weddings i've been to, that said, the idea of paying $50 at a courthouse doesn't sound appealing at all..

my partner has always spoken to me about the idea of a wedding/marriage/civil partnership ( whichever you prefer to call it) and he thinks the idea is romantic.. the idea of having a $50 affair at some government courthouse is a lil contradictory.

not sure how much the average wedding price's are, but it would be a semi modest affair, maybe close family and friends, hire out a small church hall / dance hall afterwards, with a big cake or something.. possibley spending up to about £6,000 on it, depending. ( that's roughly $11,000 i think).

or perhaps we'll have something different from the tradition.. i dislike the way that elton johns wedding was protrayed in the media.. (everyone was like "who's the female in the relationship?" and all the cartoon drawings of them both wearing white dresses.. bleurgh.)

it'd be a romantic affair to be sure.. something that me and my partner could remember and be proud of when we celebrate our many years together..

My wife and I were married almost 6 years ago. We spent more money on booze than anything else. My best friend at the time did all the clothes, was the DJ and my maid of honor. We had our ceremony outside at a friends house. They took care of decorations and the food, as did other friends. The reception was also outside in the same place. I would say we spent less then $1000. Like I said before, most of the money was spent on booze and a few decorations and material.

I don't know if I'll ever get married, but I'd imagine I wouldn't spend a whole lot. I think close friends and relatives only are needed. Simple and nice. 5,000-10,000 TOPS. I hate spending money on things like that, I just cant do it.

My ideal wedding. I think i would like a Cinderella theme wedding because our love story would have some correlation to the Cinderella fairytale. I would be Cinderfella, he would be my prince charming and we'd get married at Disneyworld.

but I wouldn't mind keeping it simple.

Admittedly I've never thought about the expense, but with all of the drama and anxiety leading up to the glory of a gay wedding, I'd say I'd have to to be reined in ... We'd probably have to honeymoon in a cardboard box downtown...
