Lawless, rebellious people, idol worshippers, drunkards and homosexuals: were referred to as "sons of Belial" or "daughters of Belial" in the scriptures below
"Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known" (Deuteronomy 13:13 KJV)

Don't get the wrong idea about me though - I've read the bible through and through, I just don't choose to believe in it.

The Bible never truly answers this question as Belial appears to be a city rather than an entity. However, Milton's "Paradise Lost" states that Beliel is one of the fallen Angels, but he was a 17th century poet, not a priest of prophet .

In many of the Roman Catholic Inquisition trials and the later Protestant Witch Hunts this phrase was used by those who made the charges, "conjurations of devils and demons - Satan, Beelzebub, Orion and Belial." What strikes me is that Orion was amongst the Greek pantheon and is honored by having a constellation in the celestial equator near Gemini and Taurus, named for him, that we still recognize. So, things stay muddled.

I never claim to be the expert. I just consider the various possibilites.
The Bible talks about the "Children of Belial". So many think it was another name for Satan, who is the "Father of Lies" according to Judeo-Christian thought.
Belial may have been some wicked priest or sorceror. And the word "lie" itself may have came from his name. Or maybe he changed his name to Belial, as many change their names to fit what they do, or when they become famous. Names, (the resonance of letters and numbers, sound), has power on the spiritual level.
Just looking at the name, it obviously means "to lie". Be'LIE'al!
So Children of Belial are those who
testify falsehoods. Whether intentionally, or through ignorance.
